Mighty Rover's Tribute to Merle Haggard

When we first saw the tribute to Merle at the Humboldt Folklife festival we knew we needed to bring a Merle tribute to Redwood Coast Music Festival. We reached out to band leader Ken Jorgenson of Kenny Ray & The Mighty Rovers who has put together a collection of some of Humboldt's finest musicians to take the stage in honor of the Country legend.

Haggard was a key figure in the Western Swing Revival.  One of the best singers and songwriters in the business. But Haggard was also a highly-skilled musician, able to play both guitar and fiddle. He put those skills on full display in his 1970 studio album, A Tribute to the Best Damn Fiddle Player in the World - Bob Wills. He had admired Wills since he was a child.  The album claimed the second spot on the country albums chart, and led to a resurgence in popularity for the Western swing genre.
