Saturday Night Blues Show with Rick Estrin & The Nightcats

For the past 9 years Tuesdays at Mona’s and Mona’s Hot Four have served as the focal point of the rebirth of the Hot Jazz movement in New York City.  It’s late night and space is at a premium but that doesn’t discourage a capacity crowd of regulars and musicians who come for the trad jazz that so many love. Jazz musicians from all over town come, after they’ve played their gigs, take off their ties and jam with their friends.  The mania surrounding the music has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more musicians that play Hot Jazz, the more crowds that have been attracted, which, in turn, generated more gigs.

At Redwood Coast Music Festival this year we’re fortunate to have the core of Mona’s Jazz scene here and we’re going to bring the Mona’s Jazz club experience to Speakeasy Saturday Night At the Sequoia Center.  Hosted by Dennis Lichtman’s Mona’s Hot Four +.  They will be joined throughout the evening by over a dozen festival All-Star musicians who will be coming in, as they finish their regular sets, to play in impromptu combinations, perhaps never before heard and guaranteed to kick up the party and celebrate the true spirit of Trad Jazz.

"The live show is filled with songs we never get tired of playing–there is a lot of improvisation and it evolves every time we play. The songs flow–not fixed, not like a fly in amber—more like driving on the freeway!” – Michael Doucet
